Bearcat Diversity Book Club is where we choose one book a semester to stimulate discussions on varying subject matters related to cultural differences and inclusion. Through open dialogue, Bearcat faculty and staff learn to have brave conversations. By doing this, we are building community, embracing difference, and becoming engaged, diverse leaders on campus.
Additional information will be shared with participants.

2023 marked the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip-hop culture, which, as a global industry and phenomenon, has accomplished a lot. But as a culture, what has hip-hop taught us? How has it inspired us? In what ways has it freed us? This book presents The Hip-Hop Mindset Framework—a perspective that gives us the permission to show up in life as our full authentic selves and to shine in our own culturally unique ways. Centered primarily in the field of education, this book introduces the hip-hop mindset as a professional practice that holds relevance for students, educators, and ambitious leaders in any profession.

Fall 2023, we will be reading The Inclusive Mindset: How to Cultivate Diversity in Your Everyday Life by Justin Jones-Fosu. This book intentionally defines what diversity is, while purposely articulating what it is not. It tackles some of the most controversial topics of DEI in a manner that allows for deeper conversation and reflection. We will follow the relevant stories in each chapter, provide models for behavior, and helpful strategies to make inclusivity, advocacy, and allyship a part of our everyday life!
Bearcat Diversity Book Club will begin on October 9, 2023. Participants may sign up for the Monday or Tuesday Book Club that will be held bi-weekly over zoom at noon.
